Architectural decorative lovebird statue, terra cotta, 10th century AD., Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province
The lovebird statue looks very lively with a slender body, puffing chest, curled tail, spreading wings and a rising head that looks straight ahead. This decorative element used on top of archaeological monuments was discovered in the Hoa Lu ancient citadel (Ninh Binh province). Together with other decorative elements, the lovebird statue reflects the scale, magnificence, and splendor of royal architectural monuments of this period.
