Special Exhibition

In addition to permanent exhibition, every museum organizes special exhibitions (or temporary exhibitions). This is a very important form of exhibition which enriches, diversifies and "renews" the museum activities. While the permanent exhibition introduces the overall and general contents which reflect the philosophy and nature of each museum, the special exhibition focuses on a specific topic and provides the public with more abundant and diversified information than the permanent exhibition. The special exhibition also reflects the results of museum’s professional activities and serves the political tasks of the Government in each period of revolutionary history. Thus, this kind of exhibition is frequently varied and renewed to meet the public’s needs step by step.

Together with the permanent exhibition system at two locations: No. 1 Trang Tien and No. 216 Tran Quang Khai, the VNMH has annually organized or co-organized special exhibitions in collaboration with numerous institutions, domestic and international museums, associations, private collectors with rich and diverse themes. Many exhibitions are highly appreciated by the public and researchers, such as: Flying Dragon- Vietnamese Royal Art, Vietnamese Maritime Heritage, Vietnamese artifacts, Vietnamese ancient lamps, Vietnamese ancient jewelry, Vietnamese Buddhist Cultural Heritage (collections at the VNMH , Asia - cultural colors, Japanese culture, Vietnamese Ancient Pottery Statues, Posters in the resistance war against the French colonialists 1946 - 1954, Dong Son Culture, Lotus and antiquities, International support for Vietnam's struggle for reunification 1954-1975, Collection of Vietnam revolutionary newspapers 1925-1945, Imperial treasures - golden books of the Nguyen dynasty (1802-1945), Renovation - Journey of the dream, National treasures of Vietnam, Sparkling - Collection of lacquered and gilded wood objects at the Vietnam National Museum of History etc.

The VNMH is always interested in investing the exhibition facilities, and improving the content of special exhibitions as a prominent strength of the museum.

Recently, the VNMH has two special exhibition halls: the first one at No. 1 Trang Tien with an area of 100m2 and the second one at No.25 Tong Dan with an area of 200m2. They have been renovated, upgraded with synchronous design, modern equipments (imported specialized display cabinets, LED lighting system, display platform system ...) to increase aesthetic efficiency and adapt to various types of artifacts. With each exhibition, the VNMH is successfully in combining the content and art form to attract the visitors.

In order to offer the public a closer and more diversified view of the values of Vietnamese historical and cultural heritage as well as to renovate and enhance the museum activities, the VNMH has experimented with interactive 3D online for virtual museum. This modern technology has been applied for the permanent exhibition and some special ones and integrated on the VNMH’s website. The highly interactive application of 3D virtual museum will be a revolutionary tool to change the passive and unidirectional view of visitors. It will support the real museums in making the public curious and attract them to the museum. Based on these experiments, the VNMH is developing a 3D virtual museum, which will be completed and presented to the public in the near future.

Thus, the imagery of the Vietnamese country and people through the cultural heritage has been gradually introduced and advertised abroad to help the international community having a more accurate and complete understanding of Vietnamese history culture.
