The book is edited and published by the National Museum of Vietnamese History. Authors: Nguyen Dinh Chien - Pham Quoc Quan. The submarine archaeology of Vietnam takes its beginning since the excavation of the ancient ship Hon Cau in the province Ba Ria - Vung Tau, in 1990. So far, in the sea space of Vietnam, have been discovered and explored five ancient ships: Hon Cau, Hon Dam, Cu Lao Cham, Ca Mau and Binh Thuan. The goods recovered from these ships are ceramics coming from Vietnam, China, Thailand, which need to be studied. It is a precious source contributing to the treasure of cultural patrimonies of Vietnam and in the region, and at the same time has a great value in the study of the silk road on sea on the Vietnam sea in last centuries.
This book, besides the presentation and the list of compared dates, comprises 4 chapters:
Chapter 1: Some knowledges on the ancient ships in the sea space of Vietnam.
Chapter 2: Vietnamese ceramics
Chapter 3: Chinese ceramics
Chapter 4: Thailandese ceramics
Besides the main contents, there is the bibliography and the list of abbreviations. The reader can also contemplate beautiful images, the rich decorations of the objects extracted from the Vietnam sea these last years.
It is a work realized in the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the foundation of the National Museum of Vietnamese History (1958 - 2008). The authors hope, through this book, contribute to the propaganda of the realizations of the submarine archaeology of Vietnam to readers.
The book is of dimensions 21×29cm, 425 pages, and is published in two languages: Vietnamese and English.
