It can be said that the book is the first monograph on boat burial in the spatial and temporal context of depressed region of the Northern delta (including the Red river and Thai Binh river) and the periods of Dong Son culture (from some centuries BC to AD), post-Dong Son, Chinese domination, dynasties of Ly, Tran and Le until recently. The book has systemized the entire data on boat burial and burial boat of the Dong Son culture in Vietnam, providing managers, researchers, Vietnamese lecturers of history and culture with updated, complete and objective information, as well as characteristics, nature, dates, localized typologies and developmental phases of the Dong Son boat burials.

Approaching the issue of the Dong Son boat burials and burial boats is a way of looking at responses between humans in diachronic and synchoronic, as well as horizontal and traditional dimensions. Based on it, this book has created a distictive historical cultural picture of Vietnamese people during their process of occupying and exploiting the depressed are of Red river in the early time of founding and defending our country.
