In this work, the authors sought typical itinerary for the change in thoughtof Vietnam about a complex century from the mid of nineteenth century to the mid of twentieth century. It is a journey of group of intellectual plays quintessential and sensitive role in society. The basic content of the "Three generations of Vietnamese intellectuals" is to identify groups of intellectuals over the historical period which the author call "historic generation". In the context of the history of the country, the authors divided into three historical periods with three generations of intellectuals.

The book surveys biography and social journey of three generations, the changes or challenges of each generation in the context of the country, the region and the world. .
The goal of the authors is that over the period of modern history and modern turbulent country, how the Vietnamese intellectual class have experienced?,thus generating their traditions.

The book consists of five main content:

Part I. Opening the historical sociological study about generation in the context of nation. .
Part II . Biography and social journey of three generations.

Part III . Crisis " war generation " ( 1862-1907 ) .

Part IV . Duy Tan in Vietnam ( 1907-1925 ) .

Part V. The challenge of revolution ( 1925-1975 ) .
