In late 1944, from the spontaneous discovery local residents in the past, the French archaeologist Louis Malleret excavated Oc Eo culture relics at the site Oc Eo mound on the field which located east and Southeast of Ba The mountain. Now it belongs to Oc Eo town, Thoai Son district, An Giang province. The archaeological excavation is very important, lay the first foundation for the archaeological study about archaeological culture which discovered in An Giang and Southern plain called Oc Eo culture.

Over 65 years, achievement of archaeological research Oc Eo culture has clarified many historical issue the prehistory and history from BC, as well as many other problems of the post-Oc Eo culture and later modern times of the Southern land, when the Vietnamese residents settled here.
