In the end of 1009, Ly Cong Uan took the crown and established the Ly Dynasty. After a few months, Ly Thai To (King Ly Cong Uan’s name) had a wise vision that he wrote a ‘proclamation for shifting the capital’ to move the capital from Hoa Lu citadel to Dai La citadel. The area ‘Thang Long’ (the new name of Dai La citadel after it had been chosen to be the capital) officially appeared then, so it was built as a massive and majestic area and became a sacred symbol of the Vietnamese nation.

Under the reign of the first kings of the Ly Dynasty, Dai Viet gained many achievements in all fields. This is the first dynasty of the Vietnamese independent feudal dynasties. The Ly Dynasty not only cared about establishing the government but also improved the agriculture, strengthened and expanded the territory, developed the culture and education. So in Ly Dynasty, Dai Viet became an independent country in South East Asia.

“The Ly Dynasty 1009-1226” is a publication that took a long time for the author to collect and choose documents involved the dynasty. The book brings useful information and comprehensive views about the first dynasty of the Vietnamese feudal dynasties for all domestic and foreign researchers.
