+ At Suu (905) : The Khuc reconquered independence, opened an era of vietnamese feudality. Profiting from the decadence of the Tang in China, Khuc Thua Du, a powerful landlord of Hong chau (Hai Duong), proclaimed himself chief of the country, independent from the Tang. The Khuc instituted central and local powers, divided the country into provinces, departments, cantons, communes, instituted the familial registers. They abolished the heavy forms of exploitation of the Tang, leaving only one form of taxes, the tax of rice-fields. Since then, our country is liberated from the yoke of chinese domination, and enjoyed its own independence with the vietnamese feudality.

+ At Suu (965) : Nam Tan Vuong Ngo Xuong Van died from an arrow in a battle against the pirates in Thai Binh. The dynasty of the Ngo is so interrupted and the country entered an era of disorder with the 12 feudal lords. Fortunately, Van Thang Vuong Dinh Bo Linh brought back order to the country, thus avoiding the chinese domination.

+ Tan Suu (1001) : The General of the ten divisions Le Hoan beat the pirates Cu Long at Thanh Hoa, whilst Ve Vuong Dinh Toan died on the battle field, giving an end to the dynasty of Dinh.

+ Ky Suu (1049) : In a dream, King Ly Thai Tong saw himself led by the goddess Quan Am to a throne of lotus. When awake, he asked his Court to give him advice, and listened to the advice of Bonze Thien Tue, recommending to construct a pagoda according to the model seen in dream, to worship the Goddess. It is the pagoda Dien huu at Thang Long (Hanoi), still called the One Pilar Pagoda, which subsists till now.

+ At Suu (1145) : The Kings Ly built in their natal country two pagodas: the pagoda Dien linh Phuc Thanh and the pagoda Son Canh Vinh Long.

+ Quy Suu (1253) : The Tran had built in the capital Thang Long, the Quoc Hoc Vien to teach the classical books such as the four books and the five classics. They created the Giang Vo Duong to teach military art to military men and to children of the mandarins. Besides, they had erected the statues of Chu Cong, Confucius and Mencius.

+ Quy Suu (1433) : Death of King Le Thai To. The heir prince Nguyen Long, 11 years old, succeeded him, as King Le Thai Tong.

+ Ky Suu (1469) : King Le Thanh Tong had the map of Dai Viet drawn, divided the country into 12 thua tuyen : Thuan Hoa, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Son Nam, Hai Duong, Son Tay, Kinh Bac, An Bang, Tuyen Quang, Hung Hoa, Lang Son and Ninh Son.

+ Tan Suu (1481) : King Le Thanh Ton had built numerous farms all over the country to increase agricultural production and create jobs for soldiers in peace time.

He had erected stone steles at Van Mieu of Thang Long (Hanoi) to inscribe the names of doctors received since the first examination until the last reign of the posterior Le, i. e. 124 examinations. Since 1802, the Nguyen transfered the capital to Hue and built another Van Mieu as well as the steles to inscribe the names of the doctors received in the succeeding examinations, until the abolition of the confucianist education by the French at the beginning of the first decade of the XXe century

+ Dinh Suu (1697) : On the 18e year Chinh Hoa of King Le Hi Tong, termination of the printing and publication of the book Dai Viet Su Ky Toan Thu. This gigantic book of history comprises 24 tomes, relates the history of our country since the year Nham Tuat (2870 bef. J.C.) of the dynasty Hong Bang (Hung Vuong) until the year At Mao, 2nd year Duc Nguyen of King Le Gia Tong (1675). This book is the result of compilation through 3 dynasties Ly - Tran - Le, during 570 years, until 1679.

+ Ky Suu (1829) : Doanh Dien Su Nguyen Cong Tru enterprised the clearing of marshy areas of the coast, and founded the two farms Kim Son and Tien Hai of the provinces Ninh Binh and Thai Binh (North Vietnam).

+ Tan Suu (1841) : King Thieu Tri had drawn the provincial maps of the whole Vietnam in a military and administrative purpose. Moreover, he forbade

the mandarins in their working journeys to trouble the population by their acts of corruption.

+ Tan Suu (1841) : King Thieu Tri had drawn up an administrative inventory all over the country. Here is the result of the inventory:

- The country has in total 970.516 persons (male, in the age of military service and obligatory labour and personal tax, from 18 to 50 years of age).

- The whole country has 4.063.892 mau (i. e. 1.463.000ha)

- The rice tax amounts to 2.804.774 hoc (old measuring unit, equivalent to 12 millions of paddy grains, equal to about 120 kg) i. e. about 335.000 tons.

- The money tax amounts to 2.852.462 quan (1 quan = 10 tien, 1 tien = 60 dong).

- The gold tax amounts to 1.471 ounces (1 vietnamese ounce = 37,5g) i. e. 55kg.

- The silver tax amounts to 121.114 ounces, i. e. 4.540kg.

- The military men of all sorts, central and provincial, amount in total 212.290 persons.

This is an inventory furnishing precious values. If it was realized some tens of years later, after the arrival of the French, the situation would not be the same and this inventory would not be realizable.

- Tan Suu (1901) : Phan Chu Trinh is received Pho Bang, was nominated thua bien of the Ministry of Rites by the Court of Hue, but resigned soon to engage himself into the anti-French revolution. In this session were received also Tran Quy Cap, Huynh Thuc Khang and Ho Chi Minh’s father, Nguyen sinh Sac.

- Dinh Suu (1937) : The General Chofflet, commander of the battle which vanquished De Tham in 1913, came to the French School of Far-East, the Director of which at this time was Nguyen Van To, to give back the couple of swords of Hoang Hoa Tham, the soul of the hero of Vietnam pursueing him to ask amends for his death.

+ Quy Suu (1973) : The Americans are forced to leave Vietnam after more than 20 years of agression.

On occasion of the New Year Ky Suu 2009, the editors send to the readers some images of buffalo drawn on objects conserved in the National Museum of Vietnamese History.
