The vestige of Lý dynasty in Phương Nhi mountain (Ý Yên district, Nam Định province)

In the survey program of some vestiges of Lý - Trần dynasty around Ý Yên area (Nam Định province), we studied in Phương Nhi mountain what lies on the range of mountain combine from Điệp Sơn range (Hà Nam province). Ngô Xá mountain is opposite where have ruins of famous Chương Sơn temple. Recently, Phương Nhi mountain is known by series architectural artifacts have art characteristics of Lý dynasty, prove they are products of a big size vestige need to research.

Need to be saved the lacquered wood collection in Thanh Den grave

The Editors: Thanh Den grave was excavated “extinguish fire” on October 10th 2009. There are many burial things in the grave, the wooden objects are the most interested: the coffin in boat shaped, the wooden outside covering of coffin and about 20 lacquered wood works what have cultural, historical values. Hai Phong Museum conserved initially, but still have many problems set up for conservation task, then the former lessons paid a heavy price. .

The mutual inluence Dong Son – Sa Huynh in the archaeological site of Bai Coi (Nghi Xuan – Ha Tinh)

The archaeological site of Bai Coi, belonging to hamlet 9, commune of Xuan Vien, huyen of Nghi Xuan, province of Ha Tinh. This site has been discovered, explored and excavated since the years 70 of the 20 th century. To have more information on the character and the cultural contents of the site as well as to exhume in time the precious vestiges face to the destruction of the site (because of sand exploitation, and because of the search of ancient objects by the popukation… ), from 12/2008 to the end of 1/2009, the National Museum of Vietnamese History, in coordination with the Service of Culture, of Sports and Tourism of Ha Tinh, has undertaken the excavation of the site of Bai Coi.

In occasion of the 85 th anniversary of the discovery and study of the culture of Dong Son, the National Museum of Vietnamese History organizes an exhibition of remarkable objects of Dong son gathered these five last years (2004 – 2009), among which are objects known for the first time, namely the collection of lampadaries at the site of Lang Vac (Nghe An). It is a collection never seen so far, comprising lampadaries in the form of people, of elephant, of stag, of ox, buried together with the dead to go to the next world, and discovered in tombs considered as belonging to the upper class of the contemporary society

Echo of Dong Son – Newly discovered objects in 2004 - 2009

The culture of Dong Son was first discovered in 1924 at the river Ma side, in the commune of Dong Son, huyen of Dong Son (now districi of Ham Rong, Thanh Hoa city). In this very place was first discovered the collection of vestiges of the age of metals in Vietnam. Since then, the culture of Dong Son has been studied and explored many times, chiefly in the three big rivers of north Vietnam, it is the centres of Red River, of River Ma and of River Ca. At these three centers, the archaeologists have found the successive stages of cultural development to arrive at last at the summit which is the culture of Dong Son. Besides the principal lines of development, including the three centers of Dong Son of the three rivers, the culture of Dong Son comprises also other elements showing the cultural background of different regions and giving to the collection various features: sea – mountains – middle region and plain. After 85 years of study and exploration, Dong Son has affirmed its internal strength of development, and also contributions from other cultures, as well as its own contributions to other cultures of continental and insular South-east Asia.

Echo of Dong Son – Newly discovered objects

The culture of Dong Son – Vietnam has been discovered by French archaeologists for the first time in 1924 on the Ma riverside, in the commune of Dong Son, huyen of Dong Son (now quarter of Ham Rong, Thanh Hoa city). This is also the place where was discovered for the first time the collection of vestiges of the age of metals in Vietnam and in South-East Asia. So far, the domain of distribution of this culture has been determined from the northern to the southern frontier of Deo Ngang (a mountain pass of Vietnam), province of Quang Binh, with a concentration in the valléys of three big rivers: the Red River, the river Ma and the river Ca.

DISCOVERY OF THE ANCIENT TOMB OF DUC TU II

In the middle of February 2009, during the construction of the hygienic complexe of the college of Duc Tu (commune of Duc Tu, huyen of Dong Anh, Hanoi), the workers of construction have discovered rows of bricks, disposed in arch. Special decorations are found on a side of these bricks. Thinking that these are ”singular” signs of perhaps an ancient vestige, the Direction of the Project of construction of the college has reported the news of the discovery to local authorities to give the alarm to responsible services.
