On March 25, the central Thua Thien – Hue provincial Military High Commands raised VND150 million for the construction of the “11 Huong river girls” statue in Hue city to mark the 39thanniversary of Hue liberation (Mar 26).
On this occasion, Thua Thien – Hue provincial Women’s Union urged all its members and women in provincial agencies and units to donate one day's salary to speed up the construction.
In the past, the 11 Huong river girls squad became a legend, with many splendid feats of arms in the Mau Than campaign which made great contributions to regaining Hue city over 25 days and nights of the campaign. President Ho Chi Minh had sent a letter to congratulate them on their victory.
Hue city set up a memorial stele to the squad on Ba Trieu street of Phu Hoi precinct.
In April 2009, the squad was awarded the noble title of “Hero of the People’s Army Forces” by the State President./.
