With the permission of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, at the end of December 2008, the National Museum of Vietnamese History has signed the Research Cooperation Agreement with the National Museum of South Korea. The main domain of research of the two parties is the exploration and archaeological excavation.
After the signature, the two parties have begun the research of certain places in Hanoi, Ha Tay and Thanh Hoa which have relation with the culture of Dong Son, in order to find out a place where the two parties can cooperate in research. The program begins with the exploration and the archaeological excavation of the site Go Ma Tre, in the commune of Co Loa, huyen of Dong Anh, Hanoi, which will take place from the 10 February 2009 to the 10 March 2009.
With 40m
2 of area of exploration, the archaeologists of the two museums expect to get more knowledges on the contents and the character of the site, whence on Co Loa, focus of the civilization of the Red River. At the same time, the study and the exploration of the culture of Dong Son in Vietnam, will be a base of comparison with the culture of bronze of Korea.
A month of working on place has permitted to vietnamese archaeologists to get initiated to methods of archaeological excavation of Korea, permitting to the next phase to get more results. Moreover, the cooperation creates good conditions for vietnamese archaeologists to make acquaintance with methods of excavation brought by korean archaeologists. However, this phase of study have shown that the technics of excavation and the scientific knowledges of the archaeologists of the two countries are comparable, which is very convenient for the cooperation. This will create good conditions for the study and the comparison of objects belonging to analogous cultures of Korea and other countries, through the information channel of the National Museum of Korea.
We hope that during five years of cooperation, the archaeologists of the two museums will receive numerous results, useful for the conservation and valorization of the cultural patrimonies of Vietnam. At the same time, it is an opportunity to propagate the history and the culture of Vietnam to friends of the whole world.
