Vietnam National Museum of History

On the afternoon of August 20, 2025, at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong visited the Vietnam National Museum of History (VNMH). This museum, located in central Hanoi, is a unique historic building that houses an extensive collection of Vietnamese historical documents and artifacts, spanning from prehistoric times to the present, including national treasures.

Upon their arrival, Deputy PM Bui Thanh Son and Minister Penny Wong were welcomed by Director Nguyen Van Doan, Deputy Director Nguyen Thi Thu Hoan and other senior officials responsible for specialized departments.

During their visit, Deputy PM Bui Thanh Son and Australian FM Penny Wong explored significant collections that reflect Vietnam’s history and culture. These included national treasures such as the Ngoc Lu and Hoang Ha bronze drums, the Dao Thinh bronze jar, the Viet Khe boat tomb, as well as artifacts from the Ly, Tran, Le and Nguyen dynasties.
The visit took place in a friendly and open atmosphere, offering an opportunity to introduce Vietnam’s cultural heritage to international friends. It also affirmed the role of heritage in fostering mutual understandingandstrengthening bilateral cooperation, while highlighting Vietnam’scommitment to tradition and sustainable development.

From 18 May 2019, the exhibition “Treasures of the Red River. Archaeological Collections from the Museums of Vietnam” will be running in the Winter Palace’s Halls of the History of Ancient Writings. It is being timed to mark Ho Chi Minh’s birthday and the days of the city named in his honour.
