On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory and the signing of the Geneva Accords (1954 - 2024), the thematic exhibition titled “Điện Biên Phủ - The Immortal Spirit” was launched at the Vietnam National Museum of History (VNMH) on the morning of April 25th, 2024.

Participants of the opening ceremony included Mr. Nguyen Tuan Linh - Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Pham Dinh Phong - Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage, Prof. Dr. Luu Tran Tieu - Chairman of the National Council of Cultural Heritage, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Do Van Tru - Chairman of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association, Historian Duong Trung Quoc, Vice President and Secretary General of Vietnam Association of Historical Sciences, Dr. Nguyen Van Doan - Director of VNMN and representatives of museums and news agencies in Hanoi.

With nearly 150 documents and artifacts, the exhibition " Điện Biên Phủ - The Immortal Spirit" recounts the historical story of the Vietnamese people 70 years ago. Under the the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese army and people highly promoted the strength of the great national solidarity with the determination to raise the flag of "Determined to fight, Determined to win", making the historic victory of Điện Biên Phủ, forcing the French Government to sign the Geneva Accords on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina. The Northern part of Vietnam was completely liberated, while people in the Southern part of Vietnam continued to struggle for reunification.

This exhibition helps the public better understand the significance, stature, and value of the Điện Biên Phủ victory. The prerequisite of that great victory was the solidarity of the entire nation and the will to fight for national independence . The immortal spirit has been the source of motivation that has strengthened the Vietnamese people  on the path of  innovation, integration and development.

On the occasion, the Museum coordinated with the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism Information Technology Centre to launch an e-ticket system, helping improve service quality and actively contributing to digital transformation in Museum operations.

The exhibition will be opened to the public from April 25th, 2024 to June 2024 at No.25 Tong Dan Str., Hoan Kiem Dist., Hanoi.

From 18 May 2019, the exhibition “Treasures of the Red River. Archaeological Collections from the Museums of Vietnam” will be running in the Winter Palace’s Halls of the History of Ancient Writings. It is being timed to mark Ho Chi Minh’s birthday and the days of the city named in his honour.

Following the Diplomatic Note of Exchange on the project “Improving the capacity to preserve and restore cultural heritage of the Vietnam National Museum of History” between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, on November 28, 2023, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Japan International Cooperation Agency signed an agreement to support preservation equipment for VNMH.
