Vietnam National Museum of History

With the aim of enhancing the preservation of marine cultural heritage of both countries; strengthening and expanding mutual understanding through the cooperation of research, professional training and human resource exchange, for more than 10 years, the Vietnam National Museum of History has cooperated with the National Research Institue of Maritime Cultural Heritage of Korea to carry out projects in the fields of surveying the Vietnam’s ancient trading port system, archeology, preserving of marine cultural heritages, researching of trading history on the sea of Vietnam and Korea in particular and East Asian countries in general. In particular, the research project on Vietnam's ancient trading port system has been jointly carried out annually and obtained many good results, at the same time enhancing the professional experience for staffs in preservation and promotion of marine cultural heritages of the two countries Vietnam and Korea.

In addition, the two museums also participate in academic exchanges at conferences and seminars; professional training courses; exchanging information, materials and coordinating in publishing research reports on the Vietnam’s ancient trading port system.

In order to continue the good results achieved, the two museums signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the next 5 years (2020 - 2025).

Due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the two museums did not have the opportunity to meet directly and hold a formal signing ceremony with the participation of representatives from both sides. With the two sides’ consensus as well as the desire to continue to expand bilateral cooperation, the signing took place at the office of each museum quickly and effectively, marking a memorable event of the Vietnam National Museum of History’s international cooperation.

Dr. Nguyen Van Doan, Director of the Vietnam National Museum of History signs a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Research Institue of Maritime Cultural Heritage of Korea.

Ms. Kim Yeon Soo, Director of the National Research Institue of Maritime Cultural Heritage of Korea signs the Memorandum of Understanding with the Vietnam National Museum of History. 

The cooperation in this new period is one of the activities aimed at strengthening the good relations between the two countries, thereby creating favorable conditions in research, preservation and promotion of cultural heritage of each country.

From 18 May 2019, the exhibition “Treasures of the Red River. Archaeological Collections from the Museums of Vietnam” will be running in the Winter Palace’s Halls of the History of Ancient Writings. It is being timed to mark Ho Chi Minh’s birthday and the days of the city named in his honour.

In the morning of November 18, 2020, the opening ceremony of the Special Exhibition ‘Bai Coi-The rendezvous of different cultures’ took place at the Viet Nam National Museum of History at No. 1, Trang Tien Street, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi. The exhibition was organized by cooperating between the VNMH, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Tinh province and the Ha Tinh Provincial Museum.
