With the approval of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Vietnam and the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism of Laos, on the morning of October 24, 2018, the VNMH held a signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Museum of Laos, phase 3 (2018-2021).

Attending the ceremony were Dr. Nguyen Van Cuong – VNMH’s Director; Mr. Pham Dinh Phong - Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage, representative of the Department of International Cooperation - Ministry of Culture, Sports and, Tourism with the head and deputy head of VNMH’s professional departments.

On the side of the National Museum of Laos, there were Mrs. Phetmalayvanh Keobounma - Director; Ms. Vanpheng Keopannha, Deputy Director of the Heritage Department; Mr. Thitsavath Manotham, Deputy Director, Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism of Laos. In particular, there were Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Laos; Phachansitthi Hatsakhone - Third Secretary, Laos Embassy in Vietnam.

Both museums’ director giving memorial gifts

In recent years, the VNMH has expanded its cooperation with many national museums in the world. The signing ceremony with the National Museum of Laos has marked an important landmark in international cooperation of two countries in the fields of culture, history, research, publishing, and education.

Representatives of the two museums also hope to develop and implement cooperation plans within the framework of the MOU, contributing to strengthening the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

From 18 May 2019, the exhibition “Treasures of the Red River. Archaeological Collections from the Museums of Vietnam” will be running in the Winter Palace’s Halls of the History of Ancient Writings. It is being timed to mark Ho Chi Minh’s birthday and the days of the city named in his honour.
