On the morning of November 25, 2018, the VNMH organized a seminar "Evaluation of six-year preservation project funded by Sumitomo Fund, object preservation - raised issues" at No. 1 Trang Tien, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi.

Attending the workshop were Dr.Nguyen Van Cuong - Member of National Council of Cultural Heritage, VNMH’s Director; MSc. Pham Dinh Phong - Deputy Director of Cultural Heritage Department, Ministry of Culture, Sports and, Tourism; Dr. Pham Quoc Quan - Member of the National Council of Cultural Heritages; Ms. Mai Thi Ngoc - Director of Vietnam Military History Museum; Ms. Phetmalayvanh Keobounma - Director of Laos National Museum; Ms. Vanpheng Keopannha, Deputy Director of the Department of Heritage - Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Laos. Leaders of the Institute of Monuments Conservation, leaders of Nam Dinh Museum, Hai Duong Museum; Representatives of experts from Japan and other units; heads, deputy heads, professional staffs of VNMH and press agencies.

Within the cultural exchange program between the VNMH and the National Museum of Kyushu in Japan, for six consecutive years, Sumitomo Fund (Japan) has sponsored and appointed Japan's leading experts to renovate and preserve VNMH’s valuable objects. Working with Japanese professionals was significant, not only for the preservation of objects, but also for VNMH’s staff to learn and improve their skills.

The workshop included the report of the three-year project to repair the doors of Pho Minh Pagoda and six-years of preservation cooperation sponsored by the Kyushu National Museum of Japan and Sumitomo fund; raised issues of object preservation.

Throughout the seminar, the VNMH desired to learn, exchange, and share experiences and knowledge, as well as viewpoints in the preservation of museum objects with scientists and experts to improve the quality of museum preservation and further promote the effectiveness of international cooperation projects on preservation.

From 18 May 2019, the exhibition “Treasures of the Red River. Archaeological Collections from the Museums of Vietnam” will be running in the Winter Palace’s Halls of the History of Ancient Writings. It is being timed to mark Ho Chi Minh’s birthday and the days of the city named in his honour.

On October 5, 2018 at the State Hermitage Museum, Saint Petersburg, Russia, Dr. Nguyen Van Cuong – VNMH’s Director and Professor. Mikhail Piotrovsky, director of the State Hermitage Museum, signed an exhibition agreement between the VNMH and the State Hermitage Museum.
