The Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued August 26, 2016 a letter number 3376/BVHTTDL-DSVH instructing the implementation of the master planning for Vietnam's museums to 2020.

For the projects of building new museums: investment including budget and preliminary works should be strengthened, in particular the exhibition's content and performance together with design and construction options.

For the museums which haven't got enough financial resource for building new ones, budget also needs to be invested for preliminary works, in particular the collection work for the future building.

The Ministry requests relevant competent organizations to pay attention and create favorable conditions for the development of the museums, for example: strengthening investment and budget for the preliminary works regarding exhibition's content and performance, renovating exhibitions and displaying original objects instead of illustrative objects, diversifying educational activities, experiments and performances to promote cultural heritages. On the other hand, making favorable conditions to let museums support museums (private museums) regarding of organizing museum activities.

On July 1-2, 2026, the Vietnam National Museum of History (VNMH) in collaboration with Da Lat University and Japanese conservation experts, organized a professional training workshop on the conservation of waterlogged wooden artifacts by the Trehalose method. The workshop serves as an important preparation for the project "Conservation of Ancient Waterlogged Boat in Vietnam by the Trehalose Method", while promoting the application of advanced conservation technologies for Vietnam's cultural heritage.
