Approved by Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST), a signing ceremony of MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) between Vietnam National Museum of History (VNMH) and South Korea National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage (NRMCH) was held at VNMH on 31/03/2015.

It was attended by Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh - Head of International Relations Department (MOCST), Mr. Nguyen Huu Toan - Vice Head of Cultural Heritage Department (MOCST), Dr. Nguyen Van Cuong - Director of VNMH, Dr. Vu Manh Ha - Director of VNMH, Dr. Nguyen Van Doan - Director of VNMH, Mr. So Jae Goo - Director of SK National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage, Kwa Yu-Seok and Hong Sun-Jae - senior officers of SK National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage.

Previously, VNMH and NRMCH have signed for a co-operative program on Vietnamese maritime cultural heritage for the stage of 5 years, 2009 -2014.

At the ceremony, VNMH's Director Nguyen Van Cuong emphasized the co-operation between the two parties for the past 5 years. He said it was very effective; one example was the publication of the book called "The traditional boats of Vietnam". He also highly appreciated the co-operation for the ways of doing the research and solutions of conservation and promotion of the underwater cultural heritages.

NRMCH's Director So Jae Goo expressed his expectation for the next coming co-operation. It is a long term co-operation; two parties will work together for many jobs. He also expected that two parties will publish more books about the maritime cultural heritage in two languages, Vietnamese and Korean.

Two parties agreed on the content of working for the next co-operation program as the following:

Exchange and collaborate to excavate maritime cultural heritage, restore and renovate maritime cultural heritage, and study sea trading history of Vietnam and South Korea and among countries in the region, exhibit and print and publish, exchange information and educate/ training.

Publication on the results of research and study will be implemented through the exchange and stating that the results will be the part of the co-operation between the two parties notified in the MOU.

Signing MOU

Two parties will implement the project from 31/03/2015 to 31/03/2020.

From 18 May 2019, the exhibition “Treasures of the Red River. Archaeological Collections from the Museums of Vietnam” will be running in the Winter Palace’s Halls of the History of Ancient Writings. It is being timed to mark Ho Chi Minh’s birthday and the days of the city named in his honour.

On 26/03/2015, a delegation from New-York Historical Society (USA) visited and met Vietnam National Museum of History (VNMH). Dr. Nguyen Van Doan, Deputy Director of VNMH hosted the guests. They exchanged views on a co-operative project for an exhibition that will showcase the materials and objects related to the Vietnam War 1955-1975.
