To celebrate the 90 years since the Dong Son culture has been discovered and researched (1924 - 2014), in the morning of November 18, 2014, an opening ceremony to launch the special exhibition called “Dong Son culture” was held at the Vietnam National Museum of History. The exhibition was organized by the VNMH and the collaborations of local museums including Hanoi Museum, Hung Yen Museum, Lao Cai Museum, Nghe An Museum, Yen Bai Museum and Thanh Hoa Museum.
The ceremony was attended by Ms. Dang Thi Bich Lien – Deputy Minister of Vietnam's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Tran Chien Thang – Former Deputy Minister of Vietnam's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Prof. Dr. Sc Luu Tran Tieu – Chairman of National Heritage Council, Dr. Do Van Tru – General Secretary of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association, Mr. Nguyen Huu Toan – Deputy Director of Cultural Heritage Department, Dr. Nguyen Huu Thuc – Chief of Department of Culture, Literature and Arts (Central Committee for Propaganda and Education), Mr. Le Xuan Dinh – Deputy Director of Yen Bai's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Dr. Nguyen Van Cuong – Director of the VNMH.

This exhibition showcases Dong Son culture which existed in the Metal Ages, dated from 7th – 8th centuries BC to the 2nd – 3rdcenturies AD, distributed in mainly northern provinces of Vietnam. Dong Son culture plays an important role in the Vietnam's national history. It is considered as the foundation for the establishment of the first kingdom of the Dai Viet civilization (now Vietnam). The Dong Son culture has also influenced on other regions locally and internationally.

On an area of 200m2, with 272 objects are showed; including 105 exhibits owned by the VNMH belonging to the Dong Son culture and made of various materials such as bronze, iron, ceramic, glass, wood and stone ... for different kinds of products such as drums, labor tools, domestic wares, weapons, musical instrument, jewelry, artworks and miniatures... In this gallery, a picture of a Vietnamese culture in the ancient time or Dong Son culture has been revitalized in a vivid and fascinated manner..

In particular, in this exhibition, the VNMH introduces 4 artifacts that were recognized as the Vietnam's National Treasures including Hop Minh bronze situla, Dao Thinh bronze situla, Hoang Ha bronze drum, and the figurine of a man carrying another on his back and playing the "khen".

The exhibition of "Dong Son culture" aims to present audiences the most prominent objects of the Dong Son culture. Previously, many exhibitions on Dong Son culture were launched internationally in Malaysia, South Korea and France. Those exhibitions have contributed to promote the Dong Son culture in particular and the Vietnamese cultural heritage in general to the world.
