The Dong Son culture was discovered in 1924 in Thanh Hoa province. 10 years later, it was officially named as "Dong Son culture".

Dong Son culture played an important role in the development of Vietnamese history. It has been 90 years since the culture was discovered and researched. It proved to be a foundation for the establishment of the first kingdom of Van Lang – Au Lac (now Vietnam) and famous for its bronze casting technique. It also proved to have made influences on the region.

To celebrate the 90th anniversary of Dong Son culture, the Vietnam National Museum of History will organize a number of events on this occasion. Particularly, a seminar focusing on the 90 years of discovery and research on Dong Son culture will be hold.

The seminar will be attended by many scholars and cultural curators from research institutes, cultural organizations and universities. They will update new information and knowledge on Dong Son culture through their essays that will be published in a bulletin to be presented at the seminar.

The seminar will be opened at 13h30 and closed at 17h00 dated November 18, 2014 (Tuesday) at the VNMH (1 Pham Ngu Lao, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi). In the morning of the same day, an opening ceremony of "Dong Son culture" exhibition will be launched.

From 2009 to 2014, a co-operative program on researching the Vietnamese marine cultural heritages has been implemented by the Vietnam National Museum of History and the National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage, South Korea. For the past 5 years, many issues related to the Vietnamese foreign trading history has been revealed through the program.
