Dong Son culture belonged to Iron Age in Vietnam and it was named after a discovery of bronze items in 1924 in Dong Son village (now Ham Rong district, Thanh Hoa province, Vietnam).
In 1934, the term “Dong Son culture” was made by a scholar, R. Heine Geldern, when he found a resemblance between the objects excavated there with the previous collections.
Through studies, the Dong Son culture has been worked out. Dong Son culture located in the North of Vietnam, from the Northern border to Deo Ngang mountain (connecting Ha Tinh and Quang Binh province). It is closed to Red River, Ma River and Lam River.
To celebrate 90 years of finding out Dong Son culture (1924 - 2014), VNMH has collaborated with Malaysia’s National Museum to open a temporary exhibition “Dong Son culture” in Malaysia.
