With a view to strengthening and promoting the academic exchange between Vietnam and Japan, a MOU for archaeological excavation co-operation was signed by VNMH and University of East Asia, Japan on 16/12/2013.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by representatives from University of East Asia, Mr. Kushida Kouji - Rector, Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong - Director of VNMH and senior officers of 2 parties.

The MOU designates 4 terms including the work scope and time, party’s obligations, publication, and other conditions. It focuses on excavating relics of the first ten AD centuries, including excavating Han tombs and Luy Lau citadel (Thuan Thanh, Bac Ninh).

Hopefully, this archaeological collaboration will contribute valuable resources to the historic understandings of Vietnam in the first ten AD centuries, a historic period that might have a lot of “dark spots” as said by Mr. Cuong.

From 18 May 2019, the exhibition “Treasures of the Red River. Archaeological Collections from the Museums of Vietnam” will be running in the Winter Palace’s Halls of the History of Ancient Writings. It is being timed to mark Ho Chi Minh’s birthday and the days of the city named in his honour.

Following the signing for exhibiting Japanese history and culture between Kyushu National Museum and VNHM, a Japanese delegation led by Shinichi Nakagaki (International Co-operation Department of Fukuoka) had a working meeting with VNMH.
