On 29-11-2013, a MOU was signed by VNMH and Department of Museums Malaysia with the view to strengthen and promote the cultural co-operation, the solidarity and friendship between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Malaysia and for the two country’s museums.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by representatives of Heritage Department, Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Department of Museums Malaysia, VNMH leaders and senior officers.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong - Director of VNMH and Mr. Dato’ Ibrahim bin Ismail - Director of Department of Museums Malaysia expressed pleasure and solidarity to the relationship built up for many years, it is enhanced especially in the last ANMA 4 Conference. They agreed that this signing is an advance and significant remark in the co-operation and exchange between the two museums. Mr. Dato stressed that this signing opens new opportunities in the co-operation relation, exchange, learning experiences and consolidating the friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Malaysia.

The MOU is effective in 5 years (2013 - 2017) and dedicated to 4 items including:
1. Exchange and co-operate in culture, history, exhibition, documentation, education, conservation, study and publishing.
2. Encourage and support visitations and working for personnel to exchange experiences in fields of exhibition, education, study, documentation and conservation.
3. Exchange mutual exhibitions, including opening a temporary exhibition called “Dong Son culture” in Kuala Lumpur, 2014.
4. Encourage and support activities to foster the friendship and mutual understandings between the two countries.

After signing, Malaysian partners visited VNMH temporary exhibition of “Asia - the colorful cultures” and the permanent displays.
