Following the invitation of the Commission for the Archaeology of Non-European Cultures (German Archaeological Institute), VNMH sent his Deputy Director Nguyen Van Doan to visit Germany during Oct 24 to Nov 7, 2013.
We received a warm welcome from the host and started the visit with the following schedule:
- Oct 25 - 26: participated a seminar on “Golden wares and structure of patina layer on the archaeological objects made in gold” at German Archaeological Institute office in Frankfurt.
- Oct 27: visited architectural relics and ancient tombs sited from Frankfurt to Bonn including the Glouberg relic (Hessen, North West) belonged to Kelten ethnic group, has been existed for over 2000 years, and the world’s cultural heritage of Romerkastel Saelburg – Limes…
- From Oct 28 to 30: visited the Commission for the Archaeology of Non-European Cultures for exchanging some issues related to Vietnamese archaeology that Germany is paying attention, such as relic system of metallic era in the South East of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City.
- Oct 31: worked with German archaeological experts for upcoming articles and introduction of Vietnamese archaeology and confirming the outline of the documentary exchange program between Germany and Vietnam.
- From Nov 1 to 4: Visited museums and relics in Berlin, such as Nueus & Pergamon Museums, German Historical Museum, Jewish Museum, Asian Art Museum and Humboldt University…
- From Nov 5 to 6: worked with curators of Archaeological Museum in Henne and Mendham cities for the exhibition titled Vietnamese Archaeological Treasures that expected to be launched in 2016. Attended the temporary exhibition namely “Uruc - the great city” (belonged to Mesopotamia civilization), visiting and learning about the laboratory system and the research out-comings of the laboratory co-operation for golden objects from Vietnam and ASEAN…
- Nov 7: Came back to Frankfurt for departure.

The visit was ended after 15 days with many successes. It enables the relations and co-operation between Vietnam museums and German museums in the aspect of archaeological study and exhibition, opening opportunities for exchanging and improving the professions and mutual understandings, thus, making favorable conditions for the long-term co-operation.
