Implementing collaborative research program between Vietnam National Museum of History and Korean Research Institute of Marine Cultural Heritage from May,3th to May,11th,2013, a group of researchers of the two units conducted a survey five ancient trade ports in some provinces in central area of Vietnam including Lach Truong port (Thanh Hoa), Hoi Thong port (Ha Tinh), Thanh Ha - Bao Vinh port (Thua Thien - Hue) , Da Nang port (Da Nang), Hoi An port (Quang Nam).
The scientific target of mission was investigating relics of ancient port, studying process of formation and development of ports, the role and position of port in the course of history, studying relics relating to ports in the region…
In ten working days, the mission made an effort to complete work nicely inspite of hot weather condition, limited time and remote road.
During the investigation, survey, besides field work, photograph...the mission also meet witnesses to get more necessary information and expanded surveyed scale to the monuments relating to the formation, development and ruin of the port. At some ancient trade ports as Bao Vinh- Thanh Ha port (Hue), Hoi An port (Quang Nam), Da Nang port (Da Nang) due to permitted condition, we surveyed topography of the port area, including landscape, environment, rivers, estuaries ... relating to the conditions forming port.
In addition, the mission also collected books and documents relating to the ports.
With great effort of the mission, we have completed all scientific target: surveying five ancient trade ports in Central region near 1000 km long. The survey was successful in all aspect: science as well as diplomatic. When returning Korea, they send a thankful letter to confirm the success of survey and the desire of long-term cooperation between two sides.
