After the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 1674/Decision- Prime Minister on September 26th 2011 on the establishment of the Vietnam National Museum of History in the base of merging two museums: The National Museum of Vietnamese History and the Museum of Vietnamese Revolution, the Minister of Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism signed on December 7th 2011 Decision No. 4046/Decision - The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on function, task and organizational structure of the Vietnam National Museum of History.
On March 22 nd 2012, the Director of Vietnam National Museum of history signed Decision No. 109/Decision –VNMH promulgated the Regulation on organization and operation of Vietnam National Museum of History.
Regulation includes six chapters and thirty three provisions, beside of general rules (Chapter one) and the implementation (Chapter six), the regulation focuses on defining the duty and power of the professional offices (Chapter two ), including fifteen departments:
Administrative and general department
Personnel department
Planning department
Finance and Accounting department
Protection and Security department
Technique and Technology deparment
Reseach and collection department
Management of exhibit department
Preservation department
Gallery department
Outdoor gallery management and memorial space department
Public education department
Communication department
Document, library department
International cooperation department

Vietnam National Museum of History also has Building Committee of content and form display and Science Council (with separate operation regulation) beside of professional department.
Chapter three of the Regulation focus on task and power of manager s at all level.
Chapter four defines the obligation and right of all officiers and labours.
Chapter five stipulates the working regime and the assignment relationship of the director of Vietnam National museum of history with the leaders of ministries and functional department , the Party organization, trade union, youth group ...Chapter five also specifies rule to coordinate between professional department ofthe museum .
With the strengthening and perfecting the legal documents which suit with the function and duty of Vietnam National Museum of History, we hope the museum's management system as well as professional activities of the Museum will be increasingly be advanced, deserves the head museum of museum system which belongs to history – social type, contribute to the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage to visitors in nation and international.
