Nirvana Buddha statue, gilded wood, Restored Le dynasty, 17th – 18th centuries AD., Chem pagoda Northern Tu Liem district, Hanoi.

This is one of the precious nirvana Buddha statues still in existence today. Buddha entering Nirvana is represented in a lying posture, one hand supporting his head, one hand along his side. Nirvana is the realm of bliss (where people enjoy pleasure). The dream of all Buddhist followers is that after death they can be reborn into the Pure Land, can enter nirvana, and no longer reincarnate.
