Phoenix head, terracotta, Tran-Ho Dynasties, 14th-15th centuries AD.
This is a decorative element on a corner of the roof of an architectural monument which is typical for Dai Viet art at the end of the Tran dynasty. The phoenix has a big and long beak, round goggle eyes, curly hair and delicate motifs. The large size of the phoenix reveals the large scale of the monument and reflects talent of the builders at that time.
