The book was written by Swedish archaeologist O. Janse as an archaeological notes on his studies in the Far East in the early 20 th century. As a collaborator of the Ecole Fran ç aise d’Extreme-Orient, he headed many important excavations to bring back the Louis Finot Museum (nowadays the Vietnam Museum of History) many valuable exhibits including the human-shaped lamp mentioned in the book title.
